Be aware of what you can and cannot do with emotes. While you in theory can emote that you are the ruler of the world, it would be stupid. Emoting it doesn't make it true. Emote ONLY things that are plausible and do not invade other peoples right to make their own decisions and reactions.
For example...
BAD: emote juggles some apples and everyone gasps in awe at her amazing skill.
GOOD: emote juggles some apples.
It is up to whoever is watching to decide how they react to your amazing feat of juggling. Don't try and control what other people do. Similarly, don't emote something that someone could react to as if it's a done deal. Give them space to react as they see appropriate.
For example...
BAD: emote gives you a solid punch in the ear.
GOOD: emote swings a fist towards your ear.
Other useful commands are SMOTE and PMOTE. Pmote is exactly the same as emote, except that if you enter another persons name into the pmote, it will display to them as "you".
For example:
pmote smiles lovingly at Ashur.
.. would display to Ashur..
Rystaia smiles lovingly at you.
.. but would show everyone else..
Rystaia smiles lovingly at Ashur.
Smote is the same as emote, except that you may place your name anywhere in the line.
For example:
smote With a smile, Rystaia turns and saunters away.
.. would display..
With a smile, Rystaia turns and saunters away.
Another great tool is ESAY. After a while, a conversation can get quite dull if everyone simply "says" everything. With esay, you can ask things, or grumble things, or if you're feeling very ambitious, you can smile and say something. Esay is pretty vital to anyone who dreams of entering the ranks of Avendar's RP elite, as it turns a simple conversation into an interesting piece of literature.
Example:
esay asks Do you know where the Crown of Ultimate Power is?
.. would display..
Rystaia asks 'Do you know where the Crown of Ultimate Power is?'
Example:
esay 'smiles and says' You are the most interesting person I have ever met.
.. would display..
Rystaia smiles and says 'You are the most interesting person I have ever met.'
Pro tip: Do not overdo it. No one wants to read a 3 line emote every two seconds, or read the intricate details of your tone every time you answer "Yes". If you're using "thee" and "thine" every third word, stop and take a breath. Moderation is key! Pay attention to how other people act and react.
