A forest of both intrigue and excitable danger rests to the south of
Var Bandor, serving as the major crossroads to the southern expanses.
These woods are heralded as the Nendor Woods, possibly named after
the druidic order of Nendor that proclaims the woodlands as their home.
The woods are large, and there are few trails. If one is ever in
the mood for exploration, Nendor is a good place to start. But be
wary, exploration should be undertaken with the utmost caution, and with
a potion of transportation at one's side.
Young travellers are heavily advised to stick to the main path, which
connects the Var Bandor regions to the southern Savannah. There
are side paths that may take you to other places, but these paths
can be littered with danger at times. The path to Eril village has
been reconstructed, due to the many accidental deaths, and is now
much safer to reach.
Despite the danger however, most adventurers end up exploring the woods
accidentally (again, by stepping from the path), and as such, return
to the cities with many of stories that have become somewhat of a pool
of rumors about the woods: Dragons, stirges, bandits, rare and lucrative
snipe hawks. The list is endless.
Lately, a darker portion of Nendor has availed itself. In the south-western
region, the woods have turned ominous, the very saplings and trees coming alive and
becoming vicious towards those who intrude upon the evil territory. Adventurers
are advised to take heed.
The south-eastern paths to Aeolis' shrine, and the further areas of Mount
Enrien, have become the ambush points of bandits. Some have even gone
as far as to say that the bandits have created a hidden dwelling within
the forests, somewhere. Travellers are advised to take heed, and to
use the guise of invisibility when they can.
As people travel further into the woods, more rumors have come back to the cities.
Some speak of a dragon who has burrowed himself into a portion of the Nendor Woods,
devouring those who fall through the loosened soil of its trap. Some speak of
violent bears, unable to be tamed even by the local Nendorin Order. Recently,
mists have come and gone from the north-eastern corner of the woods, availing
the sight of a mysterious mansion.
Rest assured, there are many more rumors and tales to be had of the Nendorin Woods...
Highlights:
- Main crossroads to all the southern areas of Avendar, as well as a
few smaller areas located within Nendor itself.
- Some good equipment to be found here, including the
staple Emerald gear that a lot of lowbies like to use. Be
careful about going to get it though..
- A lot of neat things to explore. But, most of it
is dangerous.
- Naturalist guilds are found in Nendor. These
are generally safe to travel to, as well.
- Nendor Woods is home to the infamous Clockwork Mansion,
as well as Dolgrael's temple.
- Climbable trees.
Things to be careful of:
- Wandering from the path if you're a very low rank/without a transportation
potion.
- The Emerald Dragon.
- The Dark Forest.
- Ramc sez, "And the bandits can turn any waltz into Nendor into a 2-hour quest to get your stuff back."
- Trying to mess with some bear's family.
- Taking candy from strangers.
- Getting high off mushrooms
- Failing to check your exits and scan when exploring.
- Hiding in a tree. It looks/sounds swell, but trust me in that it's not that swell. They're meant
to lose pursuers, not to hide in.
