The Ethics of the Game, Page 3
  by Rascyc
5) Thou shalt take your defeat gracefully, and if not, at least do it QUIETLY.

Do not OOC us how much we "cheat", or how we can obviously tell the difference between 3 people and 1 person, and so on and so forth.

Guess what? We know how to type "OOCOFF". Save yourself the trouble and the expense of possible account point deduction, and just go kick a soccerball. If an immortal is snooping you and start flipping out over a channel that is meant for short bursts of communication, you're going to find yourself horribly embarassed. The worst part of this is that you probably won't even realize how incredibly childish you are acting.

But we will.

6) Thou shalt never use "I WAS AFK" as an excuse to bash someone.

Who's fault is this? Not mine. Certainly not Bromrin's. It's yours, you went AFK in an open spot, to do whatever, and you expected to come back dead. Whether you're dead or not, is irrelevent. Something happened, and you're pissed to high heaven because you weren't at your keyboard to respond. That's okay, you can be as angry as you want *points at the soccerball*. But come on, don't take it out on other people. It's not like someone stole your keyboard. You willingly stood up and walked off.

7) Thou shalt not kill linkless people.

No, No, No, No. I know everyone has had the temptation, but again this boils down to what are you trying to prove? You just killed a defenseless baby. Congratulations, now enjoy your gloating. Oh wait, he doesn't even have a mind to gloat to. If someone is a chronic quitter and they drop link in front of you, report it to the immortals. Likely, action will be taken.

I know some vets are separated on this case, I know some who will kill an extreme chronic quitter who, happened to cut link, without hesitation.

I, for one, have actually stood guard over linkless people many a times. Including my enemies (They got a severe beating after coming back on, rest assured.)

Let's face it, the internet isn't perfect.

8) Thou shalt not blatantly flee the world upon stealing the cookie jar.

Yep, you guessed it. These are the worst. Nobody likes them; people who quit out of a playerkill, a conflict, or otherwise sour looking situation. Why do people do it? Fear of losing equipment? Fear of dying? Fear of embarassment? Everyone's reasoning is different (and typically, more twisted than the next guy's) and this is simply something that has gone on for years.

But typically, the people who blatantly break the time interval are eventually caught. Eventually slapped up, and set straight. But then they learn. They learn to follow the rules to the very letter. What, I only have to be around for ten to fifteen minutes after a PK has been attempted? I'll just quit out at ... twenty minutes then! Becaaause, the rules don't exactly say I can't!

WRONG

You have no idea what you're doing to yourself. You pull three of these and every veteran player hates you, including all of our fans in Dutchland. People will utter ill remarks about your character behind your back, and will probably make every subtle crack they can about your character over the OOC mainland. And you know what? Nobody is likely to shed a tear for you, Because you pressed the rules to the letter and now people are going to press them right back at you - the player.

In the future I plan on writing a guide on the simple practice of gracefully leaving the realms, because the breaking of this ethic is likely the most infuriating out of them all.

Remember, in the end, it's all about having fun and helping create an environment that's conducive to creating even more fun. Although PK'ing will always be an active part of all of our lives, there's certainly no reason to be a soursport about it and to start being unethical just so you can "came out on top" or "keep all the chocobos for yourself".
