The Ethics of the Game, Page 2
  by Rascyc
1) Thou shalt not hoard.

It's one thing to improve your chances of winning. It's another thing to completely strangle the entire world of neat artifacts and equipment. You're only hurting the entire mud when you do this, including yourself, and believe me, everyone knows who the hoarders are, and you're only going to obliterate whatever respect you had in their eyes.

2) Thou shalt not kill a person immediately again unless said person has:

  • Looted more than half of their mundane things.
  • Managed to loot more a handful of unique artifacts.
  • Is heavily taunting you through IC communication.
  • Has been re-marked.
Some exceptions apply.

Again, what are you trying to prove? That you can kill someone who's practically naked? That you can push the rules of multikilling to the very letter? (He picked up a pair of boots. GET HIM.) You're not playing a role at this point, you're playing stupidly, and people note this. Who wants to interact with someone who's likely going to kill them again 5 minutes after resurrecting? The moment of conflict is passed. Don't you have better things to do then prove to the world that you're the true epitome of cherry picking?

3) Thou shalt observe large expanses of time before switching between characters, and should do so without ANY KNOWLEDGE of current game events.

Let's face it, we all know them. People who are on as LG Mr. Soprano one hour, and then suddenly switch to CE Mr. Bass roughly twenty minutes after Mr. Soprano logs off. What, do you think we're completely blind to not notice you have done this? Give us a break, you're only betraying yourself and any players who depend on your character for interaction, and nobody likes a traitor. Just because the rules state ten to fifteen minute time intervals for most things, doesn't mean that you should do it each and everyday. Again, it's not always about breaking the rules, it's about ruining the atmosphere. And constantly switching characters like this will end up making a lot of people mad.

4) Thou shalt realize the differences between glitch and features.

Yea, I'm sure many of us felt the misfortune of past glitches such as the unsavable shove or the abuse nofollow gambit against group-targetting spells. What do we have to say to these types of things? Use some common sense and realize that it's blatant abuse. You're not winning anything at this point, except the sneers of those of us who actually have some respect for ourselves and for others who choose not to abuse these glitches.

Furthermore, there's a gigantic list of incidents in Avendar history that have resulted in many character wrist-slaps which could have been avoided had they taken the time to think for 5 minutes:

"10,000 platinum, easily accessible platinum in a room? Whoa, this must be my lucky day!!"

.. give me a break ... reporting bugs is your friend, and helps everyone out.
